Meet a Friend: Shannon Hays-Truex

Volunteer Shannon resides in Richland with her husband Mike Hays. They have two children: a daughter currently in college and a son who is in high school. She has been a vital volunteer and a major planner and coordinator of the environmental education program at McNary for 12 years. Shannon brings both very high qualifications and energy to the program. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Studies from Evergreen State College in Olympia and a Masters Degree in Environmental Science from Washington State University. She also has extensive teaching experience. She obviously brings her love and enthusiasm for teaching children to the McNary Environmental Education program as well. She helps restore wildlands throughout the Tri-Cities Community and has helped established native plant gardens at McNary Refuge and local parks. Shannon and Mike are singer/ songwriters and perform together as a duet.
